Philosophy

Students will learn to craft an expressive variety of sounds and combine them to best convey their musical thoughts.

Lessons

Lessons include three aspects of development: technique, studies and repertoire.

Right and left hand progressive exercises will develop purity of tone and accuracy of intonation.

The cello has a history spanning 400 years! Lessons with Peter offer homage to the classical tradition while encouraging contemporary exploration into jazz, bluegrass, composition, improvisation, chamber music, rock, video game music, and TV or movie themes.

Performance Opportunities

There are two annual recitals for students to share their music.

Each recital will include a group cello piece for those students who wish to participate. There will be three additional group classes for the ensemble piece, these classes are provided at no additional charge.

Young students have the option to prepare for festivals and competitions, including the Seattle Young Artists' Festival, All-State and All-Northwest Orchestras, the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside and the Music Teachers National Association Competition.

Students are encouraged to participate in school or youth symphony programs. Many of Peter's students choose to participate in BYSO, SYSO, Cascade or Maple Valley youth symphonies.
